“NDL/HIDC substantially reduced the time it took to select potential warehouse partners. Their database of logistic partners and knowledge of the business is valuable in the initial stages. It would probably have taken us several months longer to reach what we achieved in a month’s time”, says Lars Hellsten, Partner of SaVI.
Pedro’s is a USA based supplier of high quality bicycle tools, lubricants and care products created with a focus on sustainability. Pedro’s products have been helping champions reach the podium at events ranging from the World Championships to the Tour de France since 1989.
In May 2008 Pedro’s management teamed with Sports adventures International S.A. (SaVI) of Lausanne (an investment group with a focus in the active life, health and wellness sectors) to acquire the popular Pedro’s brand from Swix Sport USA.
Pedro's is a global brand and its European business has been managed primarily from the USA, with a warehouse and a sales representative in Austria. In order to provide better service to the European customers, Pedro's made the decision to set up a European customer service center, operated from Lausanne Switzerland.
In order to further strengthen Pedro’s position as a leading brand in its field a restructuring of the supply chain was required, among others. One of the priorities was relocating the warehousing from Austria to the Netherlands. One of the main reasons for this relocation is, Lars Hellsten explains;
‘’Austria has never been the right location. Our production locations are in the USA and Asia and our customers are located throughout Europe. Austria as a warehouse location means that we have to transport goods across Europe to the warehouse and turn it around and ship it back to customers in central Europe. Now we have a warehouse in Rotterdam, next to the arrival of the ocean freight. We have substantially reduced our land transports, which makes environmental and economic sense.’’
NDL/HIDC made a selection of logistics service providers, which would be capable of handling Pedro’s European logistics and of handling the logistics of any possible future acquisitions of SaVI. After careful consideration of information gathered during the fact finding trip and the requests for quotation, SaVI contracted Wim Bosman Air & Ocean B.V., Rotterdam, which will be handling Pedro’s inbound flows from the USA and Asia, the warehousing and the outbound flows into Europe.
Lars Hellsten adds; “Wim Bosman was the right size for us, professional and with an organization which is able to service us well.’’
